Cherry & Orange Scones

You can have a batch of fancy scones on the table in 30 minutes or less. Not a fan of cherries? swap for cranberries or other dried fruit such as currants, raisins and blueberries.

  • Prep: 15 mins
  • Cook: 15 mins
  • Yields: 10 wedges

Ingredients

1 tsp Gourmet Vanilla Baking Extract made using Do You Bake? extract kit

2 cups flour

3 Tablespoons sugar,

1 tbsp Gourmet Artisan Infused Orange Baking Extract using Do You Bake? extract kit

2 tsp baking powder

1/2 tsp salt

1/4 tsp baking soda

1/3 cup cold butter

1 cup dried Cherries

1/4 cup orange juice

1 egg

1/4 cup half-and-half cream

1 egg

1 tbsp milk

Directions

1Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

2In a bowl, combine dry ingredients.

3Cut in the butter until the mixture resembles looks crumbly, then set it aside.

4In a small bowl, combine the cherries, orange juice, orange extract, cream and egg.

5Add to flour mixture and stir until a soft dough forms.

6Flour a cutting board or counter top and gently knead the dough for a bit.

7Pat dough into an 8-in. Circle then cut it into 10 wedges.

8 Separate wedges and place on a greased baking sheet.

9Brush with milk; sprinkle with granulated sugar.

10Bake for 12-15 minutes or until lightly browned.

11Remove to a wire rack to cool.

12Combine 1/2 cup confectioners sugar with vanilla extract and 1 tablespoon of butter for a delicious drizzle.
